A hands-on disaster prevention event for children, “Isa! 2023” will be held on January 29 at JICA-Kansai and Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI) in HAT Kobe. Admission is free. Reservations are not required, but some programs require advance registration via the Internet.
The event is held annually to pass on lessons learned from past disasters to the next generation of children, and this year will mark its 14th anniversary. Due to infection control measures, the “Kaekko Bazaar (toy exchange),” one of the event’s specialties, will not be held, but a rally will be held where participants can visit booths, collect stamps, and participate in a drawing for prizes.
At the venue, a variety of organizations that are engaged in disaster prevention education and awareness-raising will come together, mainly in Hyogo Prefecture, to offer a variety of programs that are fun and educational at the same time.
A total of 28 booths will appear on the day. Let’s learn about disaster prevention using simple English! and “BOSAI Arts and Crafts Room” to make chairs and other items using everyday items, and “Think Disaster Prevention Class “Let’s Make Kaleidoscopes with Gas Pipes” to make kaleidoscopes using disaster-resistant polyethylene pipes.
Also, the “Easy with Blankets! Stuffed Animal Making” is now accepting applications in advance through the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art’s website (applications will be accepted until January 25, on a first-come, first-served basis).
<The exhibition will be held for the first time in two years, and the staff is looking forward to seeing you at the venue, fully prepared for infection. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
<The official website is currently looking for volunteers to help out as support staff on the day of the event.
