On Sunday, February 19, the 106th Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) Japan Track & Field Championships and 20km Walk (sponsored by Kobe City, Kobe City Board of Education, Kobe Sports Association, and others) will be held again this year on the official course around Konan University on Rokko Island, Kobe City.
Walking is a sport that has been attracting a great deal of interest in recent years, with Japanese athletes winning medals at the Tokyo Olympics and last year’s World Championships.
The Japan Athletics Championships 20km Walking Race has become one of Japan’s top-level walking events, with a number of new Japanese records being set in the men’s event in recent years.
This year’s event will also serve as a selection meeting for Japan’s representative athletes for the Budapest World Championships in Athletics, etc., and is expected to be a heated competition.
