Mimosa flowers will be in full bloom in early March at Kobe Animal Kingdom (Chuo Ward, Kobe City).
The mimosa is the symbolic flower of International Women’s Day designated by the United Nations, and its popularity as a gift from men to women has skyrocketed in recent years. The mimosa is planted in the park’s lawn area, where visitors can watch the small, lovely yellow flowers come into full bloom.
Mimosa is a semi-deciduous to evergreen tree that produces fluffy clusters of flowers in early spring, and is popular as cut flowers and flower arrangements. In Italy, it is customary for men to give mimosas to women on March 8, International Women’s Day, and this day is also known as “Mimosa Day.
To commemorate the blooming season, “dried mimosa flowers” made by the staff in charge of plants are on sale in the garden. The sale will end when all the flowers are gone. <A word from the reporter:
The staff members in charge of plants take care of 10,000 plants of 1,000 species at the Kobe Animal Kingdom. The time spent admiring the seasonal flowers that have been carefully nurtured by the staff is just as therapeutic as the time spent interacting with the animals
