Earth Day Kobe 2023″ will be held on May 4 and 5 at Minato no Mori Park (Kobe Earthquake Reconstruction Memorial Park) in Onohama, Chuo-ku, Kobe City.
Earth Day Kobe 2022″ held last year
Earth Day” started in the U.S. in 1970 as a day to think about global environmental issues. In Kobe City, “Earth Day Kobe” was held for the first time in 2007, and since 2012, it has been held in the same park in conjunction with “Greenery Day” and “Children’s Day”.
In 2020 and 2021, the event was cancelled due to the new Corona disaster. Last year, the event was scaled down, and this year, the live music event will be held again. The theme is “Feel, Connect, Change. Maki Fujiwara, a spokesperson for the executive committee, says, “We hope to provide hints for people to think about their future lifestyles through the event.
At the venue, there will be hands-on workshops, exhibitions, and booths selling goods and food. The theme of the event will be “ecology,” “international cooperation (fair trade, etc.),” “food education,” “slow life,” and “child rearing. Applications from vendors who agree with the event’s objectives are being accepted until March 25.
Aiming for “zero waste,” a system will be introduced whereby visitors can bring their own tableware or use reusable tableware (for a fee) when eating and drinking.
The event is run by volunteers, and volunteer staff are being recruited until April 23. A briefing session is scheduled to be held in April.
Mr. Fujiwara said, “Earth Day Kobe is supported by and needs the help of volunteers. I would like the participating volunteers to think and feel about the theme of the event through their volunteer activities, rather than simply saying, ‘I helped with the event. Above all, we hope they have fun,” he says.
The event will be held from 11:00 to 17:00 on the 4th and from 10:00 to 16:00 on the 5th. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is free.
