Kobe City is conducting various educational activities to help realize a “sustainable society. We believe that children’s proactive efforts to solve familiar problems will lead to new values and actions, and we are promoting educational activities aimed at fostering “creators of a sustainable society.
As one of our efforts, we will distribute “Kobe SDGs Fertilizer” created through the “Resource Recycling “Kobe Recycled Phosphorus” Project*” to all elementary schools for use in environmental education.
Distribution target schools
: All 162 elementary schools (including branch schools) and 2 compulsory education schools (first semester)

Kobe SDGs Fertilizer” (fertilizer using recycled phosphorus from Kobe) 1 kg x 2 bags
Example of use for environmental learning
- 4th grade science class “Seasons and Organisms” and social studies class “Life and Water
In the science class, students will use “Kobe SDGs Fertilizer” to cultivate plants such as gourd and loofah in order to investigate plant growth according to the seasons. In addition, in connection with the study of “Sewage Treatment Mechanism” in the supplementary reader “Our Kobe 4th Grade” for Social Studies, students will learn that “Kobe SDGs Fertilizer” was created through resource recycling efforts to recover phosphorus from sewage.
- Comprehensive learning time
As one of the efforts being made in society to protect the richness of nature, we will investigate the “Kobe SDGs Fertilizer” and the “Resource Circulation ‘Kobe Recycled Phosphorus’ Project”. This will be a starting point for children to think about what they can do and put it into practice.

Cultivation activities in life and science classes, greening campaigns in committee activities, etc.

*”Resource Recycling “Kobe Recycled Phosphorus” Project”
In order to make effective use of sewage resources, phosphorus recovered from sewage (“Kobe Recycled Phosphorus”) is blended with organic fertilizers, etc. and sold to farmers as “Kobe Harvest,” an environmentally friendly fertilizer, which is used for “Kobe Shunsai,” rice and school lunches. We are also expanding our efforts to recycle local resources by promoting general sales and use of the fertilizer as “Kobe SDGs Fertilizer.
