From February 11, Kobe City Suma Seaside Aquarium (Suma-ku, Kobe) will hold a collaborative exhibition by Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine and SMASUI, “Ganbare Tenmangu Shrine × SMASUI! Sea Creatures and Prayers for Success” is being held at Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine and Suma Seaside Aquarium (Suma-ku, Kobe) from February 11 to March 21.
Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine
In the entrance hall in front of the large wave tank on the first floor of the main building, an aquarium is set up in the likeness of Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine, which was built as a shrine to pray for academic success, and exhibits fish and other creatures with names and shapes related to “passing the entrance exam.
In addition to the tank, there is also a “Passing the Exam Prayer Corner” where visitors can write their wishes on message cards that are based on the design of the shrine’s passing-the-examination ema (free of charge, limit one card per person).
Octopus
There are three kinds of living creatures on display: the Japanese sea cucumber, the Japanese starfish, and the Japanese pond frog.
The octopus is called “octopus” in English, and was selected as a good-luck charm in the hope that it will “pass” an exam without incident (laugh).
(Laughs) Other creatures were also selected because their names and shapes contain elements of good luck. <
Whether or not it really brings good luck (laugh), seeing the creatures lounging around in the tank is a great way to loosen up before an exam!
