Press Release (March 31, 2023)
Port and Harbor Planning Division, Port and Harbor Bureau
Preliminary port statistics for the year 2022 (January to December) for the Port of Kobe have been compiled and are now available.
Outline
- In 2022, the number of containers handled increased, especially within Asia, as exports of auto parts and industrial machinery and imports of clothing and personal effects recovered, despite the effects of soaring global prices and China’s zero corona policy, due to a recovery in economic activity following the easing of corona restrictions.
- In addition, efforts to collect cargo from western Japan ports by international feeders, an initiative of the International Container Strategic Ports Policy, were also successful, and the number of containers handled for both domestic and international trade reached 2.89 million TEUs, up 102% from the previous year.
Container Handling Volume for Domestic and Outer Trade
- One TEU is the number of 20-foot containers.
- Figures are rounded to the nearest unit, so totals and breakdowns may not match.
- Figures are preliminary and subject to change.
