From April 21, an exhibition entitled “A Gathering of Portraits & Tour of Hyogo Prefecture” is being held at the Koiso Memorial Museum of Art in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, until July 2.
The museum was the first of the three museums on Rokko Island. It celebrated its 30th anniversary last fall. This exhibition returns to its roots, displaying a wide range of oil paintings and drawings from the museum’s collection. Portraits painted by Ryohei Koiso, which are rarely shown to the public, and landscapes of the prefecture will be on display.

In addition to a portrait of Tatsuo Miyazaki, who served five terms as mayor of Kobe and is closely associated with the museum, the exhibition will also feature a tour of Hyogo Prefecture, including “Awaji Izanagi Shrine” and “Mikage Landscape,” as well as other landscapes and materials. Also on display are landscapes of Hyogo Prefecture by Kazuo Masui, Kazumi Motokawa, and other painters associated with Kobe. <
It seems unusual to have an exhibition of portrait paintings lined up. It looks like it will be worth seeing!
