Kobe City has announced the outline of the construction of an integrated domestic/international terminal at Kobe Airport, which will be ready for international charter flights and an increase in domestic flight arrivals and departures by 2025. At a project cost of approximately 9 billion yen, Kobe’s air gateway will be reborn.
Kobe Airport is taking steps to ensure the future growth and development of the city of Kobe in anticipation of the “Osaka-Kansai World Expo” in 2025 and the expansion of airline demand beyond that time.
In order to minimize the need for passengers to move between floors, the main functions of the new terminal, such as the departure and arrival lobbies and security checkpoints, are concentrated on the first floor. The main functions are located on the first floor, facing the atrium lobby, making the layout of facilities easy to understand.
The theme of the terminal building is “floating on the sea and feeling the forest. The observation deck and the interior and exterior of the terminal building are designed to evoke a sense of nature by incorporating greenery. The “shaded design” characteristic of the buildings in the Old Settlement area has also been incorporated into the exterior of the sub-terminal to give a sense of Kobe’s history.
The new terminal at Kobe Airport is scheduled for completion at the end of February 2025, and is expected to be operational at the end of March. <A word from the reporter>
