Design and Creative Center Kobe (KIITO, Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold a “Children’s Western Sewing Class” from July 9 to October 9. (If there are too many applicants, a drawing will be held.)
The workshop is an initiative of KIITO:300 Camp, a platform for children’s creative learning, and is open to fourth- to ninth-graders. The workshop will be taught by “Western-style dressmaking madams,” as they are affectionately called, students of the “Western-style dressmaking class for adults,” Sadako Midera of Kobe Design University, and freelance designer Han Sianlin, who will remake kimono fabric to make clothes.
Participants will choose from five types of items (blouse, vest, dress, pants, and gathered skirt) to make their original clothes, which will be unveiled at a presentation to be held in October. The students will learn the basics of Western-style sewing, such as cutting fabrics and using a sewing machine, and will learn the fascination and fun of making things through the experience of making clothes from scratch. <
Remaking Kimono Fabric into Clothes! This will be a rare opportunity for children to learn the basics of Western-style dressmaking, such as cutting fabrics and using a sewing machine, while making clothes from scratch.
