Sake from the three breweries entered in the National New Sake Competition (not for sale)
The purpose of the sake competition is to investigate and research sake produced in the 2022 sake brewing year nationwide to clarify the current state of and trends in sake production techniques and quality, to improve sake quality and production techniques, and to raise the public’s awareness of sake.
The sake competition, which has been held on a national scale since 1911, is jointly sponsored by the National Research Institute of Sake Brewers and the Japan Sake Brewers Association.
The preliminary examination was held from April 19 to 21, and the final examination was held on May 10 and 11. 394 of the 818 sake entries received awards for their excellent performance, and 218 of them received gold medals for their particularly excellent performance. Nineteen sake brands from Hyogo Prefecture received gold medals.
Of these, Hakutsuru Sake Brewery won the Gold Award for all three of its breweries (Honten No. 2 Brewery, Honten No. 3 Factory, and Asahi Brewery), marking the third consecutive year that all of its breweries have won the award. The Gold Award-winning sake is scheduled to be released in the fall.
Mr. Hitoshi Mizutani, Deputy General Manager of the Production Division, said, “It is considered extremely difficult to win a gold medal every year at the National New Sake Competition, which has a long history and authority as a sake competition, but we are extremely happy that all three breweries have won gold medals for the third consecutive year. We will continue to work hard to improve our brewing techniques and produce sake that will bring smiles to the faces of our customers.
