A storytelling event of “Kanashiki Debbu Nekochan,” a creative children’s story about a lovely but sad cat named Maru who travels around, meeting and parting with people and discovering the charms of the region, will be held at Kobekkoland (Hyogo Ward, Kobe City) on June 1, 2012. Admission is free.
The novelist Kazuma Hayami, recipient of the Japan Mystery Writers Association Award and the Shugoro Yamamoto Award, wrote the story in the hope that children would find the story appealing, and the pictures are by Karin Kanou, a picture book artist from Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
At the event, the fourth work, “Maru no Hajimari no Kane” (The Bell of the Beginning of Maru), which takes place in Hyogo Prefecture from April 2022, will be read to the audience.
The story follows the adventures of Maru, a male cat who leaves his hometown of Ehime to “see the wider world” and meets a girl on a ship bound for Kobe in order to make her wish come true. Participants will receive an original clear file. Maru will also appear at the venue for commemorative photos. <A word from the reporter>
My personal favorite part of the event is that parents and children can enjoy themselves and naturally appreciate the charms of the region. My child has been a big fan of Maru ever since he participated in a storytelling event.
