Based on the concept of “Minato for People and Books: An Information Hub for Lifelong Learning,” the facility is being developed with the following basic guidelines: (1) support the learning of ward residents, (2) watch over children’s growth, (3) easy for everyone to use, and (4) open to the city and encourage interaction.

The development of the new Tarumi Library was planned as part of the “Renovation Kobe” project announced in 2019, with the aim of redeveloping the area around Tarumi Station.

The new library will be a four-story building with a planned collection of approximately 120,000 volumes, a significant increase from the existing Tarumi Library’s 82,000 volumes.
The main facilities will include a general book reading room, an area for eating and drinking, a newspaper and magazine corner, a face-to-face reading room, a children’s book reading room, a group work room, a story corner, a study room, a seminar room, and a rooftop plaza.

The planned construction site of the library is the east side temporary parking area in the “Tarumi Station East Plaza. The cultural heritage survey will be completed this month, and related construction work is scheduled to start in August. <A word from the reporter>
Following the release of the model last spring, the release of the image perspective gives a sense of finality… I can’t wait for the opening of the library in two years’ time!
