Surrounded by mountains such as the Rokko and Niu mountain ranges, mountain climbing has long been popular in Kobe City. According to the city, lifestyle changes brought about by the new Corona disaster and the spread of the SDGs concept have brought attention to “how to spend leisure time back in nature,” and while the number of people who enjoy mountain climbing is increasing, the current situation is that the environment for fully enjoying mountain climbing is not yet in place.
In this fiscal year, Kobe City launched the “Kobe Mountain Climbing Project” as an effort to increase the number of citizens who enjoy mountain climbing and the number of visitors to the city by improving the environment for enjoying mountain climbing, which is one of Kobe’s assets.
As part of the project’s efforts, the new trekking site will be operated by Kohitsu Sanso & Shintetsu Sightseeing Partners, a company commissioned by the city of Kobe.
The trekking site is located at the entrance to one of Kobe’s most popular mountain climbing areas, visited by foreign tourists, with the park to the west and Mt. The free space, which can be used for resting or meeting before climbing, will be covered with artificial grass and equipped with tables and chairs made partly from thinned wood.
The trekking information center will provide convenient services for hikers, including information on mountain climbing, guided tours, hiking equipment rental, luggage storage, and goods sales, as well as lectures and events.
To coincide with the opening of the trekking center, large PR posters will be displayed on the first and second floors of JR Shin-Kobe Station building.
