“Eelgrass” is a seaweed that grows on the shallow sea floor and is attracting attention as an environmentally friendly plant that absorbs carbon dioxide.
The Kobe West Lions Club has donated an aquarium tank to Kobekko Land, where visitors can observe the environment in which eelgrass grows.

3. Reference
Sea plants such as seaweed and seagrasses absorb carbon dioxide from seawater through photosynthesis, thereby trapping carbon in the water. This trapped carbon is called “blue carbon” and is attracting attention as a new countermeasure against global warming. In the Hyogo Canal, local residents are leading various efforts to increase the “Blue Carbon Ecosystem,” such as growing eelgrass and providing environmental education for children.
