On January 10, a “New Year Ebisu Festival” will be held in front of “Sweat Kaki Ebisu” (3 Suidosuji, Nada-ku, Kobe) in the Suidosuji Shopping Arcade in Kobe.

The “Kagamibiraki” event will be held again for the first time in four years, celebrating with Nada sake, and the special prize of the “New Year Ebisu Lottery” will be a pair trip on a bus tour. Residents in the area are looking forward to the return of this annual event in front of the “Sweat Shoveling Ebisu,” the symbol of the shopping district.
Sweat Shoveling Ebisu was enshrined from Nishinomiya Shrine in the spring of 2003, when the American football team moved from Nishinomiya to Oji Stadium, as a symbol of the “Oji Project” to link the shopping district and the sport. At the Toka Ebisu Festival, held on the 10th of each month, a lucky girl makes an appearance, and visitors to the shrine can enter a Gashapon lottery to win coupons and other prizes.
Shinya Emi, chairman of the Suidosuji Shopping Street Cooperative Association, says, “We hope that by visiting the Suidosuji Ebisu Festival, you will bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. We hope that you will join us in making this year a great year for the Suidosuji Shopping Arcade.
The event will be held from 12:00 to 15:00. The event will begin with a New Year’s Kagamibiraki (opening of the New Year mirror) and distribution of rice cakes for good luck in front of Yemiya Clothing Store (Suido-suji 4), followed by the sale of good luck charms in front of Sweat Shoveling Ebisu.
