AQUARIUM×ART átoa, a theater-type aquarium in Chuo Ward, Kobe City, has announced the opening of a new space, “átoa LAB,” on March 8, following the complete renovation of the “FOYER Exploration Room” on the third floor.

The newly renovated “FOYER Exploration Room,” a zone with an impressive overhang tank flooded with soft natural light. The tanks with pirarucu, arowana, and other fish will remain as they are, and the walls of the zone will be filled with bookshelves.

The space is composed of seven themes, including “From the Birth to Evolution of Life” and “Natural Beauty and Art. The bookshelves are lined with a wide variety of approximately 2,500 books, including illustrated books on various living creatures, picture books for children and adults, beautiful photography and art books, and novels about living creatures, which visitors can pick up at their leisure.

In addition to the bookshelves, the space itself is also characterized by the many other artistic touches, such as the various specimens, signage, and lighting. There are also chairs that allow visitors to sit inside the bookshelves, allowing them to enjoy the luxury of space surrounded by books.

The staff member in charge of the project said, “We are planning to hold various themed projects and special features in this space in the future. The person in charge says, “We have prepared a variety of mechanisms for visitors to not only pick up books in various fields, but also enjoy the atmosphere and space. Please look forward to it!
