Press Release (February 20, 2024)
Coastal Disaster Prevention Division, Port and Harbor Department
Overview
In Kobe City, the storm surge countermeasure project was completed in March 2018 and the tsunami countermeasure for the “Nankai Trough Giant Earthquake” in March 2023. To communicate this initiative, we came up with a “rumor” about tsunami and storm surge countermeasures together with artist Koichiro Yamamoto, implementer of the “Rumor Project” art project, and students from Hyogo Prefectural Higashinada High School, which is actively working as a base school for junior leaders in disaster prevention. The “rumor” will be posted on a seawall in Higashinada Ward, together with students from Hyogo Prefectural Higashinada High School. We are pleased to announce that the “Rumors” have been compiled and the schedule for posting them on the seawall has been set.
Rumor Project
The “Rumor Project” is an effort to make information about Kobe City’s policies and local trivia more accessible and eye-catching by creating “rumors” in the Kobe dialect (mainly in the style of “it seems”). This time, in addition to the tsunami and storm surge countermeasures, “rumors” about Hyogo Prefectural Higashinada High School, which cooperated in the project, and silhouettes of students who thought up the “rumors” will also be posted.
