A variety of fairs for children and gourmet foods for adults! Nada Ward, Kobe City

Suidosuji Night Market Odori 2024″ will be held on September 14 at Suidosuji Shopping Street (Nada-ku, Kobe). In case of rain or stormy weather, the event will be postponed to September 28.

The event originated from night stalls held in the Showa period (1926-1989), and the current store owners say, “We want the children of today to experience the liveliness of the night stalls that we experienced in our childhood. I want them to create sparkling memories.” The event was revived in 2010. Today, the event has become a popular summer tradition in the shopping district.

More than 50 stalls line the arcade, which retains its retro atmosphere, with a variety of booths for children, including frankfurters, shaved ice, shooting games, yo-yo scooping, and the ever-popular Senbon-drawing. There will also be stalls offering drinks and other beverages for adults to enjoy as well, and there will be a wide variety of gourmet foods that can be enjoyed by men and women of all ages, taking advantage of the strength of the shopping district.

In addition, this year, for the first time, the “Suidosuji Street Gallery” will be held to display posters announcing the night stalls created by the art club of Ueno Junior High School, a junior high school in the neighborhood. The posters of the night stalls, drawn by the students, are displayed on pillars in the shopping arcade, adding color to the festival in the shopping arcade.

The nearby Nada Chuo Market will hold a “beer garden and children’s night market” on the same day, and the Nada Chuo Suji Shopping Street will be lit up, making it a day of excitement for the entire Suidosuji Shopping Street.

We expect a large crowd again this year, so please keep an eye on small children. Also, please take precautions against heat stroke in the lingering summer heat, and use public transportation (no parking or bicycle parking).
