The “Autumn Festival” will be held from October 10 to 12 at Watatsumi-jinja Shrine (commonly known as “Kaijinja”) in Tarumi Ward, Kobe City.
Since ancient times, Kaijinja has been revered as the god of safe voyages and prosperous fishing. The “Kaijinsha Festival and Mikoshi Parade” will be held on October 12.
Once every five years, five villages (Nishitarumi, Higashitarumi, Higashitakamaru, Shioya, and Naya) take turns to carry the mikoshi, and this year, the Higashitakamaru area will carry the mikoshi.
The portable shrine is carried from the shrine to a boat moored at the wharf of Tarumi Fishing Port, a distance of about 300 meters, while performing a parade of portable shrines. Amidst confetti, the participants shout, “Yakya! Yakka! while paper confetti is sprinkled, is a spectacular sight to behold.

The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the 11th, and at 8:00 p.m. on the same day, a “parade” by four districts (Nishi-Tarumi, Higashi-Tarumi, Higashi-Takamaru, and Shioya) will take place at Tarumi Fishing Port.
The “East-West Futon-Daiko Neriage” on the 12th will be held in front of the Aka-Torii (red gate) of Tarumi Fishing Port instead of in front of Tarumi Station as in previous years.
The person in charge of the festival commented, “We hope you will come and watch the heroic, manly performance of running, carrying, and offering up the futon taiko drums that have been handed down from our predecessors.
Throughout the three days of the festival, stalls will be set up on the grounds of Kaijinsha. No alcoholic beverages may be sold or brought into the shrine. Please note that the gates close at 22:00.
<A word from the reporter>
Once again this year, four majestic and glittering futon drums will parade through the streets, bringing life to Tarumi. The sound of the taiko drums and the shouts of “saaayoiyasa” are a highlight of the parade. It will make your blood boil!
