Awajiya, a bento box lunch box company headquartered in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, started selling “500-series Hippippirdako Meshi” on November 8 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the entire Shinkansen line next spring.
The Shinkansen opened in Okazaki in 1972, and the entire line between Osaka and Hakata opened on March 10, 1975. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening next spring, Awajiya and JR Saitama collaborated to develop a commemorative ekiben.
The product is a collaboration ekiben between Awajiya’s signature product, “Hippippippadako Meshi” and the Shinkansen “500 series” that runs on the Sanyo Shinkansen line.
The jar and wrapping paper of the regular Hippippippippadako-meshi have been changed to the original specifications. The pot has an innovative design that mimics the paint job of the Series 500, and the wrapping paper also depicts the heroic figure of the Series 500.
In addition to the station sign (Shin-Kobe) and Shinkansen cars (Series 300, N700S, and Type 923), an acrylic key ring with a secret design (one type) is included as a novelty item. One key ring will be provided for each product, and it is up to you to choose which one you would like. The novelties are limited in quantity, but the commemorative products will continue to be sold after the novelties are distributed.
<A word from the reporter:
