The Gokyu ritual of releasing arrows is a must-see! Setsubun Matsuri, a bean-throwing ceremony to bring good fortune at Minatogawa Shrine

The “Setsubun Festival” will be held on February 2 at the main hall and a special stage of “Minatogawa Shrine” (Chuo Ward, Kobe City), nicknamed “Kusunokosan” near Kobe Station.

On the day of the festival, there will be a bow ritual to purify heaven and earth by shooting arrows, and a bean-throwing ritual to drive away evil spirits and bring good fortune.

After the Setsubun Festival rituals such as purification and purification of the attendees, the performance of the congratulatory words, and sword dance from 11:00 a.m., the “Tenchi Purification” archery ritual will be held on a special stage within the shrine grounds from 12:00 p.m., followed by the bean-throwing ritual by the Fukuso (Lucky Man) and Fukumusume (Lucky Girl) to purge bad luck and bring happiness, scheduled from around 12:10 p.m.

This year’s bean-throwing guests will include artist and Sun TV reporter Moe Okuda, model Airi, and chef Tadamichi Ota. After a change of attendees, a second bean-throwing ritual will be held at 12:35 p.m. (Admission will be limited if the number of attendees reaches the limit).

The lucky beans will be awarded from January 25 to the morning of February 3 for 400 yen per bag and 1,000 yen per box. There is a limit to the number of beans awarded per day, and the event will end when all the beans are gone. Please note that the beans may run out before the day of the festival.

Risshun (the first day of spring) is on February 3 this year, and the day to mark the festival is February 2. Since it is a Sunday this year, everyone in the family will be blessed. Don’t forget to prepare ehoumaki (rice cake rolls)
