We visited “Tora no Butter” (Nagata-ku, Kobe), a 5-minute walk from Shin-Nagata Station, which has been open for 12 years and is loved by local residents for its various types of curry udon.
What kind of restaurant is this? But when you look at the menu outside, you will see that there are many kinds of curry udon. Especially on a cold day, curry udon is a must-try.
The menu is the same for both day and night, and the hot pot menu is only available at night.
When you open the door, the flavorful aroma of curry and dashi broth invites you in and whets your appetite.
The spacious interior is decorated with brightly colored, uniquely designed, and uniquely patterned sundries that are filled with the owner’s hobbies.
There are also seats at the counter so that even a single person can spend a relaxing time.
The name of the restaurant, “Tiger’s Butter,” was taken from the picture book “Chibikuro Sambo,” which you must have picked up somewhere when you were a child. I remember the scene at the end when Sambo eats the pancake made with tiger butter, and it looks so delicious.
When the owner and his wife were thinking of a name for the restaurant, their mother asked them, “How about Tiger Butter, which appears in the book “Chibikuro Sambo”? They decided on the name.
Wagyu Horumon Curry Udon Set Meal” 1,350 yen (tax included)
This time, I sampled the “Wagyu Horumon Curry Udon Set Meal” from the many menu items available.
The crunchy chopped cabbage and soft, plump hormon (hormone) intertwine with the thin udon noodles, making them slippery and slippery. The thin noodles are made in order to make it easier for the elderly and children to eat, and also because many people come to this neighborhood during their breaks from work to boil the noodles quickly.
If you want to add spiciness to your dish, curry spices are available separately. I did not add any spices to my dish, but I felt sweat coming out of my back afterwards. But this spiciness seems to be addictive.
I could honestly taste the umami of the broth and the spiciness of the spices, and I was able to eat the remaining broth with white rice and drink the soup to the end to warm myself up. Some customers who do not like spicy food and children also order “cheese” and “eggs” with their curry.
The “Wagyu Horumon Curry Udon” was between medium and hot, but the other menu item, “Bokkake Curry Udon,” has a less spicy taste because the beef tendon is cooked sweetly and combined with curry. If you do not like spicy food, you may want to ask the restaurant staff what mild menu items are available.
Enjoy both lunch and dinner at “Tora no Butter” and work up a sweat eating their curry udon to get over this cold weather!
