Motomachi Cinema International “Women’s Stories” from Various Perspectives by a Genius

Motomachi Cinema, a mini-theater located in the Motomachi shopping street (Chuo-ku, Kobe), will hold an original project “Women’s Film Week 2025” from March 8 to 14.

During the week including International Women’s Day, which was established by the United Nations on March 8, 1975, and which originated from the demonstrations held in the early 20th century to demand the elimination of discrimination against women and the right to suffrage, “women’s films” that depict women from a variety of perspectives will be screened.

Four films will be screened this year: “Jeanne Dielmann: 1080 Brussels, 23 rue de Commerce,” “Winter Journey (2K restored version),” “Kitten, Please, 4K remastered version,” and “The Woman Who Will Be Mayor on Fat Moon Day. The four films are “The Woman Who Will Become a Ward Mayor on the Day of Fat. The films were selected for their cinematic appeal, not only for the issues they raise, but also for their fun factor.

During the festival, an opening talk by female cinema staff and employees from four generations will be held on March 8, and a talk by Peyanne Maki, director of “The Woman Who Will Be Ward Mayor on March 00,” and writer Artisia (from Kobe) will be held on March 9 (the director will appear remotely).

On March 12, a collaborative talk titled “Movies and Books: Women in Movies” is scheduled with Saori Katoh, organizer of NINE STORIES, and Chiori Okumura, owner of the nearby bookstore “1003” (Sensan).

We would like to share our thoughts with you through the images of various women depicted in films in a world where gender equality has yet to be realized, as a project that is possible only at a mini-theater.
