Konan Shoten (Sanda City), known for its additive-free rice cakes made using traditional methods, has started selling “Strawberry Daifuku” using local ingredients.

This seasonal product is made entirely by hand with strawberries from Sanda, azuki beans from Tokachi, and Sanda-grown Yamahuku mochi rice, with an emphasis on the balance of ingredients and taste. The strawberries used are Sachinoka and Asuka Ruby from Inagaki Farm (Sanda City), famous for its “Takumi no Strawberry”. The varieties selected are well-balanced in terms of acidity and sweetness.

The secret of the delicious taste is to cook them slowly in a large pot.

Carefully selected Tokachi azuki beans are cooked in a cauldron every morning to produce homemade red bean paste with a natural sweetness.

The store’s mochi has been dedicated to Ise Jingu Shrine, which has strict standards for ingredients and production methods, and is highly praised as “the real thing. Daifuku dough is made not from rice cake flour but from dough once made into mochi and then cooked again to create a chewy dough.

Daifuku is available at Pascal Sanda (closed on Thursdays for sales at this location) and other locations, and will be closed when sold out. The staff member in charge of the product encourages customers to visit the store early, as the dough is often gone by the evening.

The product will be on sale until the end of May.
