Chihiro Iwasaki
x plaplax
This, That, and Life
The spring special exhibition “Chihiro Iwasaki x plaplax That, That, and Life“ will be held at Akashi City Museum of Art from April 3 (Thu) to May 18 (Sun), 2025!

Chihiro Iwasaki is an artist who paints pictures with children as her lifelong theme, and has published many picture books as well as illustrations for Tetsuko Kuroyanagi’s autobiographical novel and bestseller “Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window”. This exhibition will feature interactive works by the art unit plaplax, which will make viewing Chihiro Iwasaki’s paintings a playful experience.

Children always shine their round eyes on the wonders of this world that they are learning for the first time (Chihiro Iwasaki, 1972) Chihiro Iwasaki paints wild flowers, insects, birds, and other creatures as well as children. The paintings evoke the thrill and excitement of encountering the wonders of small life.
Today, fields and mountains are being cut down in many places, rivers and waterfronts are being hardened with concrete, and the “fields,” which have been a place of symbiosis between people and nature since ancient times, are rapidly disappearing. Many of the familiar creatures that Chihiro depicted half a century ago are in danger of extinction.
In this exhibition, interactive works by the art unit plaplax will be incorporated to make viewing Chihiro’s paintings a playful experience. The exhibition also incorporates ecological perspectives, and through Chihiro’s paintings, we will enjoy thinking about how we can live in harmony with various kinds of life.
