From August 29, “Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Resonating Aquarium,” an installation exhibition by Mika Ninagawa and others, will be held in the 3rd floor “PLANETS” at the “AQUARIUM×ART átoa” theater-type aquarium in Chuo Ward, Kobe City.
The exhibit, which I viewed at a media preview, was truly breathtaking. The space, in which Mika Ninagawa’s worldview is condensed, is sure to captivate children and adults alike.
PLANETS” on the 3rd floor, featuring one of the largest spherical aquariums in Japan, is a popular photo spot. This is the fifth collaboration project.
Mika Ninagawa also sent a message via video.
Director Nakayama said, “We hope to bring new surprises to existing visitors. We hope that visitors will experience and feel something of Ms. Ninagawa’s worldview. Ninagawa also sent a video message, saying, “I hope you will discover something new and out of the ordinary.
In addition to Ninagawa, Hiroaki Miyata, who created the Expo’s signature pavilion “Better Co-Being,” and the creative team “EiM” worked together on this project.
Crystals in a variety of colors and shapes surround the spherical tank, which radiates breathtaking beauty with red, blue, and white lighting. Butterflies, hearts, and marine life motifs create a glamorous world.
The sparkle of the crystals changes with the angle of the light, and schools of fish swim gracefully in the aquarium. The ever-changing scene invites all generations to enter a fantasy world.
Visitors can relax in the chairs provided for comfortable viewing. Please also enjoy taking multifaceted photos and videos.
The first floor “átoa MUSEUM SHOP” sells six types of limited-edition goods and Ninagawa-related products. After viewing the exhibition, be sure to check it out as well.
The exhibition will be open until November 3. Please come and experience the sparkling world of art fused with marine life in this cool and refreshing museum.
