On April 24, the first actual store of the rice flour specialty brand “Tatadado” (Mikage Koriya 1, tel 078-855-3358), operated by “Honey Mother” (Mikage Nakamachi 4, Higashinada-ku, Kobe City), will open in Mikage, Kobe.
Founded in Kobe in April 1998, Honey Mother imports and sells New Zealand manuka honey, honey, and pesticide-free natural foods, etc. In 2014, it began offering plant-based (animal-free) cooking classes, and in 2017 began producing and selling sweets free of milk, eggs, wheat, and white sugar. In 2017, they began producing and selling sweets that do not contain milk, eggs, wheat, or white sugar.
Last April, under the slogan “Rice, a gift from the climate of this country, can be enjoyed more freely, deliciously, and happily,” the company launched “Tadadado” as a brand that communicates new ways to enjoy rice through “goods and services” in partnership with rice farmers.
This month marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of Honey Mother, and the company decided to open an actual store in the hopes of passing on a healthy and sustainable lifestyle to the next generation.
The space is 15.4 square meters for the store and 25.4 square meters for the kitchen. The interior is based on white, with mortar and wood grain used to create a simple finish. Fruit tarts were used as the main visual for the store layout. In addition to the “Rice Tart” (from 580 yen), “Organic Yamadanishiki Raw Rice Bread” (660 yen), and “Rice Tiramisu” (680 yen), there are also baked goods made from organic rice flour, gelato using koji amazake, and other rice-based products.
Tomosuke Nishida, representative of “Honey Mother,” says, “At first glance, the sweets look glamorous, but we decided to keep the store simple to express the straightforwardness of ‘everything is made from rice. We believe that turning our attention in a new way to “rice,” our soul food nurtured by the climate of Japan, will be an opportunity to connect a sustainable future to the next generation. By teaming up with the producers of rice, the raw material, and focusing on the issues of Japanese agriculture, we have created a gluten-free & plant-based product that can be enjoyed by many people, including those with allergies, those practicing gluten-free, and those who wish to avoid animal products. We want to be a brand where people from various fields can share their thoughts through Tadado’s food,” he says.
Open from 11:00 to 18:00 (from 14:00 on the 21st). Closed on Wednesdays. The store will be open from the 21st to the 23rd of this month as a pre-opening.
