Tsunefumi Tsukada, who had always dreamed of one day running a restaurant business, retired from his longtime job at a construction equipment manufacturing company when he turned 50. Despite various hesitations due to the Corona disaster, he felt that “people are looking for opportunities to eat out,” and began concrete steps toward opening his own restaurant in mid-2022.
His wife Ryoko, a full-time housewife, opened a café focusing on sandwiches made with homemade mini loaves of bread, as the bread she baked as a hobby had been well received. He named the restaurant “Tsuka-chan,” from the nickname of the couple’s last name, Tsukada.
Tsunefumi says, “I like to drink alcohol, so at first I thought about opening a tavern. We want people to feel free to enjoy alcoholic beverages at the cafe,” he says, adding that he also offers a selection of beer and wine.
The morning menu includes the “Sandwich Set (Solo)” (550 yen), which offers a choice of one of the following sandwiches made with mini breads: egg, BLT, ham and cheese, anko butter, dashimaki, ume chirimen, and other rice sandwiches; the “Sandwich Set (Combi)” (750 yen), which offers two choices; and the “Sandwich Set (Trio)” (950 yen), which offers three choices. Sandwich Set (Trio) = 950 yen. All sets come with a salad, soft drink, and mini yogurt.
In addition to the sandwich set, the lunch menu also includes a pizza set (from 1,000 yen) using homemade dough.
Small snacks such as “Fried Chicken Thigh” (400 yen), “Fried Potatoes” (300 yen), and desserts such as “Coffee Jelly Parfait (mini)” (450 yen) and “Fruit Parfait” (800 yen and up) will be offered all day long.
Drinks include blended coffee, Darjeeling tea (400 yen), orange juice (300 yen), and other soft drinks, as well as beer (from 500 yen), bottles of wine (from 2,500 yen), and other alcoholic beverages.
Tsunefumi says, “We want our customers to enjoy a wide variety of sandwiches made with our homemade mini breads in a relaxing atmosphere. We would like to introduce new seasonal menu items in the future.
