I visited “N°CAFE” (Higashinada-ku, Kobe City) because I heard there is a coffee shop in River Mall, Rokko Island.

It was decided to open a store in Rokko Island in December 2020, and it took about 4 months to open. Mrs. Kurokawa has always loved coffee and has been studying it at a school for about 10 years. Her husband, who works in design, created the store’s logo and even the tables. And her friend helped her with all the interior design. With the support of many friends, the couple’s longtime dream came true.

There were about 8 kinds of coffee and 2 limited menu items. The limited menu is popular among coffee lovers and sometimes runs out quickly. The coffee beans are from “Coffee Roast” in Rokko-do. He happened to pass by and was fascinated by the taste when he tried it. Once roasted, the beans oxidize in about two weeks, so they are purchased in small quantities. He says that even though it takes a lot of time and effort, it is necessary in order for customers to enjoy fresh and delicious coffee.

When I told him that I am not good at acidity, he told me that “acidity is fruity,” and let me try “Ethiopian Yirgacheffe,” a coffee in which acidity plays a leading role. Even I, who had avoided acidity until now, enjoyed it! Customers who used to drink only American coffee now ask for straight coffee at N°CAFE. Roasting the coffee to match the fresh beans makes all the difference, doesn’t it?

All sweets are handmade by the owner. Chiffon, baked cheese, brownies, etc. The cookies on the petit plate are also handmade, of course. They have a nice gentle sweetness that does not interfere with the coffee. The baked cheese is grain-free and disappears as soon as you put it in your mouth. I could eat a lot of it…. The chiffon is firm and goes well with coffee.

Doggies can enjoy coffee time together in the outside space! I was healed by a lot of flowers.

After opening, the couple continues to study while visiting cafes across the country, and in the future they hope to do roasting at their store as well. So the couple’s dream is still going forward. I am looking forward to the further evolution of coffee.
