This year, the area where the festival will be held has been expanded! Kobe Modern Architecture Festival, a celebration of modern architecture

The “Kobe Modern Architecture Festival” (Chuo Ward, Kobe City) will be held from November 22 to 24, 2012, to showcase modern architecture in Kobe. Passports, which serve as tickets, are now on sale.

Last year, when the festival was first held, a total of 25,000 people participated, and during the period, the streets of Kitano, Yamate, Sannomiya, Motomachi, and the port were filled with people visiting Kobe’s modern architecture. This year, in addition to the Chuo Ward, where last year’s event was held, the area has been expanded to include Nada and Higashinada Wards, as well as the Hanshin area, and approximately 70 architectures will participate.

In the main program, “Passport Open House,” visitors can freely view representative modern buildings in Chuo Ward, including Kobe Customs, Kobe Muslim Mosque, Schuecke Residence, and Club Tsuki Sekai, as well as newly added buildings in the Rokko/Mikage Area and the Minatogawa/Hyogo Area. During the tour, visitors can listen to audio-guided explanations by experts.

To participate in the “Passport Open House,” visitors purchase a “passport exchange ticket” for 3,000 yen from the official website and exchange it for a passport at the site.

In addition, a “guided tour (fee required)” will be held by lottery to allow visitors to enjoy Kobe Modern architecture in more detail. With experts such as architectural historian Kazuto Kasahara, a member of the executive committee, visitors can experience a special moment that can only be experienced on this tour.
