Taste Warm Food in Awakawa Town with the 800-year-old Gokyu Ritual “Winter

On February 11, a very popular autumn and winter event, “Winter Burutto Awakawa” will be held in Awakawa-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe City. This year’s theme is “warm foods.

This annual event is held on the day of “Goyumu Jinji,” a traditional event that has continued for about 800 years and is said to bring spring to the Harima border region. Visitors can enjoy gourmet experiences and events in line with the theme while touring various spots scattered throughout the town of Awakawa.

On the day of the event, the “Gokyu Shinji (archery ritual)” can be viewed at Awakawa Hachiman Shrine from 3:00 p.m., and rice cakes to ward off bad luck will be distributed to all visitors from 8:00 p.m. The precincts of the shrine will be lined with booths offering yakitori, spiced curry, coffee, and other cold weather delicacies.

At “Awakawa Nakamura No x Wawa NOUWA” from 11:00 to 15:00, visitors can try their hand at picking tulip flowers and harvesting vegetables, and there will also be a children’s play corner.

What makes the event even more enjoyable is the stamp rally for those under 18 years old. Including stalls and unmanned spots, there are a total of 27 locations where stamps can be placed! If you collect 7 stamps, you will receive a present of candy. Please check the map on the flyer to see where the stamps are located.
