The “21st Hanamizuki Festival” will be held on April 29 in and around the precincts of Nagata Shrine (Nagata-ku, Kobe) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., cancelled in case of inclement weather.
The event, which coincides with the blooming of the “hanamizuki” (dogwood), a tree in Nagata Ward, is known as one of the four major spring festivals in Nagata, and is a popular annual event.
The white and pink flowers delight the eyes of visitors during this time of year when the “dogwoods” are in full bloom after the cherry blossoms in April, and the event is said to draw crowds of people every year for the various performances on stage and food stalls.
On the day of the festival, many stage programs are prepared, including a brass band performance by local junior and senior high school students and a kids’ dance performance using pom-poms by preschool children. In the precincts of the festival grounds, there will be a variety of gourmet food stalls to enjoy, such as “Hanamizuki Sushi” and “Nagata Manpuku Tea House.
At the Nagata Bridge East Plaza, there will be plenty of fun activities for children such as target shooting, raffles, and ring tossing. At Sandor North Square, motorcycle and fire trucks will be on display, and you can take commemorative photos with them.
