Did you know that beekeeping activities are conducted in Suma Rikyu Park in Suma Ward, Kobe City, in addition to enjoying the seasonal flowers and beautiful garden scenery?

Birth of “RIKYU HONEY” produced in Suma Rikyu Park

The honey collected by bees from the trees in the park is commercialized as “RIKYU HONEY” as part of the “bee kobe project” that started in 2019, and is attracting attention as an initiative that fosters environmental friendliness and community attachment.

The beekeeping site

The bees are active in the lush green mountains on the property. Experienced beekeepers conduct beekeeping while interacting with nature.

Beekeeping is conducted from April to June, and 500 kg of hundred-flower nectar is collected in the mountain on the north side of the park. Professional beekeepers work while checking the condition of the bees and the weather.

Floral Honey in April

April honey, collected from mountain cherry blossoms and other flowers, is characterized by its mellow aroma and floral flavor.

June Refreshing Honey

June honey, mainly from Japanese honeysuckle flowers, has a fresh flavor with a clean aftertaste. It is popular even among those who do not like honey.

Hands-on event “Honeybee Marche

At the “Honeybee Marché” held in the park every March, visitors can enjoy a comparison of two types of honey and sweets made with “RIKYU HONEY” are also available for purchase.

The event held every March provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of nature and food through a honey eating contest and sales of sweets using honey.
