The Garden Place Suzuen (Higashinada-ku, Kobe) is offering “Afternoon Tea with Cherry Blossoms and Tea” from March 1 to April 9. Reservations required.

The restaurant is popular for its afternoon tea sets that use seasonal ingredients and fruits every time. This time, cherry blossoms, perfect for spring, hojicha (roasted green tea) and Japanese black tea from “Seiko-en” in Kobe, and matcha (powdered green tea) from “Marukyu Koyamaen” in Kyoto are used in abundance.
For dessert, there will be mousse made with matcha and seasonal citrus, mon blanc with cherry cream and rich Japanese black tea brûlée, pannacotta with cherry jelly and sour strawberries, as well as anmitsu, a white bean jam with matcha and tofu kneaded into it.

The lower tier features beef bresaola, bagna cauda with seasonal vegetables, a slider made with Kobe pork ham, and a savory dish with seasonal fruits and rich mozzarella cheese. Enjoy them with “BOH TEA,” a Malaysian black tea that is also called “fantastic Asian tea.

Limited time offerings are also available during café hours. The “Sakura Matcha Parfait” uses “Senki no Shiro” matcha from Marukyu Koyamaen in Uji, Kyoto. The combination of the bitterness of the matcha accented by the saltiness of the sakura leaves and strawberries is a perfect match.

Pound cake, available only for take-out, is also available. The moistly baked pound cake with marbleized tonka beans, which have a sweet aroma like cherry, vanilla, and apricot, is a dish that evokes the arrival of early summer. ＜A word from the reporter:
