Mikage Zucca Closes Chestnut Marron Pumpkin Store on 10th Anniversary

Zucca FINE VEGETABLE & DELI (Higashinada-ku, Kobe), which has been introducing the appeal of “Chestnut Marron Pumpkin” from Mikage, Kobe to the rest of Japan, will close on March 2, its 10th anniversary.

Chestnut marron pumpkins are a rare variety that Mr. Sato’s father, who used to work as a wholesaler in the market, noticed for their delicate taste. He has decided to close the store because it is difficult to secure production volume due to the time and effort required and because he believes that he has done his part in spreading its appeal to a certain extent over the past 10 years.

After closing, the store will be renovated, with the aim of opening a new store, “Midnight Cookie Club by Zucca,” at the end of May or in June.

Popular chestnut marron pumpkins and other sweets will continue to be available from the vending machine that will be relocated from the Rokko workshop to the front of the Mikage store, as well as from the online store. The store’s limited menu of deli and lunch boxes will be available until the store closes.

The main focus going forward will be the Midnight Cookie Club, which will be available in 2023. This cookie brand was developed after gaining a good reputation while making pumpkin cookies and cookie tins.

Currently, the brand is holding POP UPs in various locations, and the representative, Mr. Sato, says, “In addition to product sales, we would like to focus on proposing the world view and lifestyle of the brand.

The new store will have a space for selling “Midnight Cookie Club” and other baked goods, as well as a coffee shop. The store is designed to “look like inviting someone close to you into your room,” and will be a stylish space with counter seats and one-person sofas.

The menu will include Norwegian waffles, baked sweets, coffee, chestnut-marron pumpkin soup, and sweets. The restaurant is also planning to offer a Japanese set menu of one soup and three vegetables, which can be enjoyed in the back of the store.
