Koyori Park (Higashinada-ku, Kobe), located in the residential area of Settsu Motoyama, is a spacious place where both children and adults gather to relax, with a steam locomotive and a Kobe tram on display.
The park has a playground where children can stretch out and play, and a very unusual practice course that resembles a small driving school.
Steam locomotive “S108” manufactured in April 1942
A “steam locomotive” sits on the northernmost side of the mini driving school area. It was manufactured in Japan during World War II and was used by Yawata Steel Works and Ishihara Sangyo. It looks black and powerful, as if it could start running at any moment!
Kobe City Tram Car No. 1155, Type 1150, manufactured in October 1956
On the other side of the museum, visitors can see a streetcar that actually ran in the Kobe city area. This is the last type of Kobe streetcar, and it is still preserved as it was in its original form.
The name of the streetcar is “Kusunokomae”, which means that it was running in front of the Minatogawa Shrine, which enshrines Masanari Kusunoki. It is worth seeing even if you are not a railroad fan!
The mini-training area in the middle of the road is a kind of cute space with two-way streets, pedestrian and bicycle crossings, and signs in some places.
There is also an S curve in the middle.
A railroad crossing is set up in front of the steam locomotive as if the tracks were continuing, so it will be fun to wait and imagine the train passing by with your children!
According to the sign at the entrance, Koyoro Park used to be “Motoyama Traffic Park,” where people could practice driving and learn traffic safety until 2005.
Before that, this place used to be the “Motoyama Driver’s License Examination Center” (!?). It is written in the book. I was a little surprised to learn that the Hyogo Prefecture driver’s license examination was held here from 1952 to 1969, until the examination center was moved to Akashi City!
The ground adjacent to the elementary school is a good playground for many children after school. There is a playground with a slide, a paddle board, iron bars, and other equipment, as well as a corner with health equipment for exercising, such as pull-ups.
Overlooking the grounds is a magnificent wisteria trellis, which was just at its best.
People were relaxing under the beautiful flowers falling overhead, children were enjoying snacks, and dogs were interacting with the flowers.
There are also other large cherry trees for cherry blossom viewing.
The outer perimeter of the park is a 334-meter-long running course that can be looped around, and many people came to walk or walk their dogs from the morning.
There are many things to see and do, and it is a peaceful and relaxing place, so please stop by.
