The event will screen films set in the Islamic cultural sphere, which stretches from Asia to Africa, transcending national borders, ethnicities, and languages. This will be the eighth time that the festival has been held with the hope that people will enjoy the films and learn about the diversity of the world. For seven days, visitors will be able to travel through the Islamic cultural sphere, which is not so familiar to Japanese people, through films.
Films to be screened include the theater premiere of “Men of the Sun,” about three Palestinian refugees from Jordan who came to Iraq; “Maryam and the Dogs” (Japan premiere), inspired by the 2012 sexual assault by a police officer; and “The Last of the Dogs,” about a former member of Femen, a feminist organization originating from Ukraine, The 14 films include “Where the Sun Don’t Reach” (Japan premiere), a documentary film centered on Amina Subwi, a former member of Femen, a feminist organization originating in Ukraine.
The festival will also include “Songs of Fatima” (April 29), which discusses suburbia and immigration, and Eliane Raheb and Nadine Labakey, two directors who focus on the “Arab” world, in a film about immigration in France. The talk sessions will include “The People Who Stay There” (May 3), which introduces Eliane Raheb and Nadine Labakey, filmmakers who focus on the “Arab” world.
<The Islamic Film Festival, which started in December 2015, is an event that many fans look forward to every year. It is recommended for those who are interested in Islamic culture and want to experience the feeling of traveling. It will be an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Islamic society through a variety of films.
