Spectacular Flowers Adding Color to Early Summer at the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden

At the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden in Nada Ward, Kobe City, about 6,000 plants of “Kurinso” are in full bloom! The best time to see them is expected to last until the end of May.

Kulinsou is a perennial plant that grows in wetlands at the foot of mountains. The name “kurinso” comes from its resemblance to the nine rings on a Buddhist pagoda when in full bloom.

It is the largest of the primrose family in Japan, and is characterized by its many flowers arranged in a five-tiered flower stalk that is 60 to 80 cm tall. The sight of reddish-purple flowers blooming all over the area is spectacular, and walking along the wooden path feels like walking through a flower garden.

Meconopsis betonicifolia (commonly known as the Himalayan blue poppy) has also begun to bloom. This is the only place in western Japan where this flower can be seen outdoors in a public place, and it is very popular because of its rarity. About 100 poppy plants in the garden can be enjoyed until late June. ＜
