Takenaka Carpenter’s Tools Museum “Summer Vacation” for children to try their hand at authentic handicrafts using carpenter’s tools

The Takenaka Carpenter’s Tools Museum in Chuo Ward, Kobe City, will hold a “Summer Vacation Hands-on Classroom for Children” event for children to experience making things. Reservations are required through the official website and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will start on June 9.

In addition to its regular exhibitions, the museum offers a full range of lecture-type events such as lectures and seminars, as well as hands-on events such as demonstrations by carpenters and crafts, and has a dedicated woodworking room within the museum.
At this annual summer vacation event, visitors can make full-scale crafts using wood, such as “RoboMokui,” an eco-friendly robot made from Japanese cypress, a rhule xylophone, a DIY children’s craft workshop, and a carpenter’s toolbox. The date, age range, and participation fee will differ depending on the crafts to be made.
In addition to the usual crafts, August 9 will be a “Robo-Moku Special Day,” during which a picture book on the theme of wood education, “Robo-Moku-no Mori,” will be read aloud to children and a piano performance will be given.
A museum representative said, “There will be a variety of crafts, from simple and fun ones for small children who cannot use carpentry tools, to more serious ones for upper elementary school students who will use carpentry tools. We hope you will join us.
