Enjoy a different view from usual in the illuminated garden Sorakuen, Kobe City

On January 27, 2024, a light-up event, “Winter Evening – Garden Viewing” will be held at Sorakuen Garden in Chuo Ward, Kobe City. On that day, the garden will be open until 7:00 p.m. instead of the usual 5:00 p.m. (admission until 6:30 p.m.).

Sorakuen is a Japanese-style garden with a circular path around a pond, where visitors can cross stepping stones and stone bridges, and view the scenery of deep mountains and valleys through streams, waterfalls, and stone arrangements. One of the charms of the garden is the harmony of nature, including a giant camphor tree said to be 500 years old, and man-made structures, such as the massive main gate, the former Kodera family’s European-style stables, and the former Hassam residence, which is an atmospheric blend of Japanese and Western architecture.

During the event, the park will be illuminated, and visitors will be able to enjoy a different view of the park than usual, such as the reflection of the important cultural asset “Funayakata” in the Hyotan Pond and the giant kusunoki tree floating in the darkness.

Food and drink will be sold from around 2:00 p.m.
