The museum has held exhibitions on the theme of “changes in life” over the years, and this time, under the title of “Elementary School Life,” materials showing the changes in elementary school life from the Meiji to Showa periods will be on display.

The exhibition will feature more than 120 items collected and stored by the facility, including old textbooks and stationery used in Akashi and Kobe, as well as wooden desks, chairs, and teaching tables used in elementary schools.

In the 150 years since the modern school system was established in 1872 (Meiji 5), the content of education has changed with the times, and these materials allow us to learn about the “changes” in elementary school life.

Some of the exhibited materials, such as questionnaires sent to children in the late 1890s, are said to be valuable in revealing the daily life of that era. The staff member in charge of the exhibition hopes that visitors will use the exhibition as a place to discuss the differences between their elementary school life and that of their own, and to share their nostalgic memories.

<A word from the reporter:
Even though it is not the same one I used when I was in elementary school, I feel nostalgic about it for some reason. It seems like something that even today’s elementary school students would enjoy.
