Students can write a report on their experience and do free research during summer vacation at Motomachi Movie Theater

Motomachi Movie Theater (Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold screenings for students during their summer vacation on July 27, 28, August 10, and 11. Although the event is aimed at students, adults are also welcome to attend.

The screening program is designed to give students an opportunity to visit mini-theaters during their summer vacation and deepen the connection between the community and movie theaters. 2021 is the first year for this program, and this year it will be held at 9 venues nationwide.

The program varies depending on the date, so let us introduce them here in order.

July 27 (for junior high school and high school students and older):
The stylish and cute French musical film “The Lovers of Rochefort” will be screened. Visitors will receive a viewing notebook and there will be a talk event connecting with cinemas around the country.

July 28]
Screening of the silent films “Goyou Lloyd” and “Nuisance Hat”. The event will be accompanied by a live performance by Kumiko Omori, a well-known benshi (benshi) of action photography, and a live piano performance by Ryo Torikai, a musician. A special program, “What’s Katsuben,” a short film about the beginning of the film and katsuben, will also be screened.

[August 10]
Hayao Miyazaki’s first theatrical film, “Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro,” released in 1979, will be brought to the screen. The film is a must-see for anyone who wants to experience the charm of “Lupin” that will never fade away no matter how many times you watch it.

August 11】
“Gauche the Cellist,” Isao Takahata’s animated film based on Kenji Miyazawa’s fairy tale, will be screened. Visitors will receive a viewing notebook and there will be a mini-concert linked to the film by Himeko Kurazumi (cello) and Ikuko Ogino (piano).

The staff in charge of the Motomachi Cinema recommends the screening of silent films and “Gauche the Cellist. Some students are reportedly submitting reports on their experiences at the event to their schools as free research for their summer vacation homework.
