The second slope of “Rokkosan Snow Park” (Nada-ku, Kobe) opened on January 11. This season, due to the cold weather for the first time in a long time, the entire slope will be open for skiing 23 days earlier than last year.
As a result of our efforts to make up the slopes with an artificial snow making system (ice crusher system) that can make approximately 240 tons of snow per day and artificial snow machines (snow fans) that can operate in conditions below -2℃, we are now ready to operate all three lifts.
Snow coming from the artificial snowmaking system
In the artificial snowmaking system (ice crusher system), water is dripped onto a total of 240 cooling plates to create ice slabs, and hot gas is injected to remove the ice slabs from the plates. The stripped ice plates are broken into 3 to 4 cm pieces before being transported by a screw to the ice crusher, where they are finally crushed into pieces around 1 cm in size to produce snow.
Ice slabs are made every 2 minutes, 20 at a time, and the size of the snow can be adjusted by the ice crusher to provide snow suitable for the weather and temperature. Artificial snow is delivered to the slopes through pipes using air pressure.
Artificial snowfall machine (snow fan) in operation
Artificial snowfall machines (snow fans) are also characterized by the fact that they blow compressed air and mist of water up into the air, which allows them to discharge a large amount of water at a time and create a large amount of snow. The operating condition is that the temperature must be below -2°C. This season, the cold weather at the end of the year has been a tailwind, and we have succeeded in expanding the slopes by operating them early on.
As of January 11, the snowfall was 100 cm (first slope: 40 m wide x 260 m long, second slope: 15 m wide x 260 m long), and the snow land (slope dedicated for snow sledding and snow play) was 50 cm (200 m wide x 50 m long).
