On April 19, Kobe International University (Higashinada-ku, Kobe) launched “Sky Court de Breakfast”, offering breakfast for 200 yen per meal, with a limited number of 30 meals available from 8:00 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through July 26. I went to an event held on April 17 to celebrate the event.
Students and neighbors who learned of the event through a flier are waiting for the opening.
Located in Marine Park on Rokko Island, Kobe International University’s cafeteria “Sky Court” offers an open view of the ocean, with a spacious first and second floor. It is usually open to the public as a place for the local community to relax.
Members of the Kobe International University Student Association also joined the event, helping to distribute flyers and guide visitors outside the campus and at the entrance from morning.
The menu for the day was “Meat Udon”. After taking their turn in line with their trays, the udon was served with a smile and a quick “Here you go!
Warm udon noodles topped with sweet and spicy thin slices of beef, carrots, thread konnyaku, tofu, and other ingredients make this an easy-to-eat and power-building breakfast menu.
The low price of 200 yen per serving is made possible by the fact that many of the ingredients used are provided by “Food Bank Kobe. In order to prevent food loss, ingredients that are close to their expiration date are used. Frozen beef bowl ingredients were used for the meat udon.
The university has previously held the “Children’s Dream Cafeteria Workshop,” a workshop event for local children during spring break that included crafts, etc. The same free lunch that utilized ingredients from “Food Bank Kobe” was also provided at that time. The same event is scheduled to be held again this summer.
A student who came to eat at the event said, “I found out about it from a flyer. I would like to use this restaurant from time to time. One of the residents said, “I stopped by today on my walk. One mother said, “I came here to eat on my way home from dropping my child off at kindergarten in the morning!

The large window overlooks the ocean, and the refreshing weather makes for a pleasant and relaxing time.
The menu will be rearranged in the future, and is intended to be a little lighter and more energizing, perfect for breakfast.
A university representative said, “There are students who don’t eat breakfast and members of athletic teams who have finished their morning training. We are happy if we can help reduce food loss and make the students and neighbors happy.
