From April 19, “Sanrio Exhibition: 60 Years of Kawaii Culture in Japan” will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kobe (Higashinada-ku, Kobe) on Rokko Island. The exhibition will run until June 29.
The exhibition traces the more than 60-year history of Sanrio, which has created many popular characters such as Hello Kitty and My Melody, as well as the “kawaii” culture that has become a universal language.
The exhibition will also focus on the background of Sanrio’s characters and how they were developed, introducing hundreds of exhibits including rare original drawings, related materials, and nostalgic goods from those days. In addition, there will also be a collaborative exhibit of works by contemporary artists inspired by Sanrio characters.
A 2-meter high Hello Kitty BIG balloon will also be on display. Photography is allowed in the exhibition rooms, so visitors can enjoy taking commemorative photos with their favorite characters. Don’t miss out on the many original goods available only at the Sanrio exhibition!
