Masterpieces of French comedy that have not been seen for a long time will be screened all at once!

Motomachi Cinema (Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold a special screening “Pierre Etex Retrospective” from March 4 to 17.

Film director, actor, illustrator, clown… French multi-artist “Pierre Etex” has countless faces. In his mid-twenties, while working as an illustrator, he had a fateful encounter with Jacques Tati and entered the film industry as an assistant director of “My Uncle” (1958).
He teamed up with Jean-Claude Carrière, who later became a great screenwriter, to produce a film full of homages to silent comedies, but after the film was released, it was discovered that it had not been released due to legal problems in France for over 20 years.
More than 50,000 people, including filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and Leos Carax, signed a petition to regain the rights to screen the film, and the rights were restored in 2010.
A Man in Love
This year’s special screening features four feature films and three short films. Six of the films, with the exception of “The Man in Love,” will have their official theatrical premiere in Japan.
