Hyogo Prefectural Rokkosan to learn about cicada species different from those in the city through “cicada shells

On July 30, an event “Let’s study cicada shells on Mt. Rokko” will be held at “Hyogo Prefectural Mt. Advance registration is required by July 20.

The area around the Rokko Visitor Center, where the event will be held, is rich in nature and is inhabited by different species of cicadas from those in the urban area. In this program, participants will enjoy observing summer plants while collecting, classifying, and counting cicada shells along the observation course around the Monument Stand at an altitude of approximately 800 meters.

By examining the shells, we can confirm the habitat of the cicadas, and since the shells can be observed without collecting the adult cicadas, they have less impact on the environment and living creatures, providing an opportunity to learn about environmental conservation.

The tour is held on a cool course in a relatively easy-to-walk wooded area, making it possible for people of all ages, from families on summer vacation to individuals, to casually participate.

For those who are not fond of insects, the staff will help them collect them. The person in charge says, “Why don’t you spend a day of your summer vacation in the cool of Mt. Rokko in the cool of summer vacation.
