Kobe City is working to enhance opportunities to experience and learn live English through exchanges with ALTs (Assistant Language Teachers), local foreign personnel, and sister cities, in order to develop English communication skills, taking advantage of the characteristics of the international city Kobe. We are working to enhance opportunities for students to experience and learn live English through exchanges with ALTs (assistant language teachers), local foreign residents, and sister cities.
During the summer vacation period, two exchange programs with ALTs will be held for Kobe City junior high school students. This will be an opportunity for junior high school students to experience the joy of communication in English and diverse cultures by interacting with many ALTs.
1. Exchange Program 1) ALTalk

A team of several ALTs visits the host school and Teams of ALTs visit the host school and interact with a small number of students for about 2 hours, conducting communication activities tailored to the English ability of each student.
Examples of programs: interviews, quizzes, games, mini-debates

1) Target school: Shirakawadai Junior High School (1-25-2 Shirakawadai, Suma-ku, Kobe)
2) Date: Tuesday, July 23, 9:00 – 11:30 am (scheduled)
3) Participants: 6 students and 3 ALTs
4) Contents: conversation in English with ALTs, cross-cultural

2. Exchange Program (2) English Summer School

Kobe City University of Foreign Studies (9-1 Gakuen Higashi-machi, Nishi-ku, Kobe City)

・City junior high school students: about 300 over 2 days
・ALT: about 160 each day
・University students: about 15 each day
(4) Contents* both days Same program for both days
【Morning】
①Opening ceremony [Main Hall]
②Exchange program [each classroom]
English program planned and run by ALTs (one-on-one English conversation, quiz, games)
【Afternoon】
③Introduction of foreign cultures and languages by university students [Main Hall]
Russian, Chinese and Hispanian students from various departments,
Students from Russian, Chinese and Ispania departments will
teach greetings, etc. in their respective languages and introduce differences in culture and customs.
