About a 3-minute walk from JR Takatori Station, we went to Omu-1 Omu Rice Restaurant (Nagata-ku, Kobe City), a hideaway omelet specialty restaurant located in a residential area.
One station next to Takatori Station is Suma Kaihin Koen Station, where “Suma Sea World” is located. You can stop by this restaurant when you are hungry before or after playing. Take-out is also available.
The restaurant has 5 seats at the counter and 2 seats at a table for 4 people, so it can be enjoyed by a single person or a family.
There are cute picture books lined up in a row for those with small children.
The owner is a bit funny, and when I said, “There are a lot of cats in the restaurant,” he replied, “I want to be a cat someday.
All the omelettes looked so delicious that it was hard to decide which one to try, but I had the “Chicken Tomato Cream” omelette, which is popular at the restaurant.
There is so much chicken and mushrooms on top that it almost spills over. The cream is rich but the acidity of the tomatoes makes the cream light and refreshing. The omelette eggs are rolled thin in the traditional way, but softly and gently enveloping the rice, a professional technique that cannot be reproduced at home.
During dinner time, there is a single dish menu other than omu-rice, but the omu-rice menu is served at the same price as lunch time. It is very conscientious!
When I tried to take a spoon from the cutlery, I found a cute original spoon of the restaurant, each with a different illustration.
They are also for sale. Spoons for children are also available.
The owner went to Wajima City on a trip before the earthquake and designed these spoons at a store in the Wajima morning market. He said, “Now that the Noto Peninsula earthquake recovery seems to be in sight, we are planning to have them restocked again. I hope to visit Wajima again someday.
Bite-sized dessert” 100 yen (tax included)
We enjoyed a “bite-sized dessert,” a fun way to see what kind of dessert will be served each day. The owner, who used to work at an Italian restaurant, had a semi-frozen Italian sweet called “Chocolate Semifreddo” on this day. How could a simple, yet luxurious dessert be 100 yen?
During lunch time, moms and elderly neighbors come to the restaurant, and in the evening, students from nearby schools and people on their way home from work come to the restaurant. The owner says, “I want this to be a restaurant where anyone, regardless of age or sex, can casually come in for a break. There are many kinds of omelette rice dishes, so you can enjoy the feeling of being able to choose according to your mood of the day.
